Embrace the risk

The desire to avoid risk, pain, and failure keeps more leaders sitting on the sidelines than any other challenge in business. That fear saps great people of their potential impact every day.

How do you overcome the fear of risk and failure as a leader?

You don’t.

As my good friend and business coach, Beth Fisher says, "the risk is always there.

Instead of trying to hide from it or avoid it completely — because that is never possible — let it instead motivate you to show up, lead effectively, and overcome it in the pursuit of something meaningful in your life and the lives of others.

Any time you’re doing something important, something transformational, you’re going to face risk. Leading is about change, and change is always risky.

But showing up every day, understanding the risks, and moving forward in faith and with a plan of action is what separates leaders from managers.
